Busy, busy summer! It. Is. HOT! But not like the regular hot, I mean hot to the point people don’t even want to go outside let alone vacation. Still, we decided to brave that scorching heat and travel a couple hours away for a nice stay in Austin. Were we able to still have a fun time and not melt under the pressure???
First off, I would just like to say a HUGE shoutout thank you to my hubby for planning this trip. I’m usually the trip planner (surprise, surprise lol), but I welcomed the break to sit back, relax, and see what he came up with for us.
On our way, of course we had to catch a flat 🤦🏾♀️. Thankfully it was a quick fix and we didn’t allow it to ruin our mood. We kept trucking and made it to the Airbnb right as dinner time was setting in.
The mister set us up really nice! The Airbnb was super clean and very spacious. They had lots of useful amenities that we could take advantage of. I especially liked the mini arcade Street Fighter set up in the upstairs play room.

Once we got settled and had dinner, me and mister camped out downstairs while we listened to our kiddos NOT go to sleep due to their excessive excitement lol! That’s what vacation is for. Eventually they did tucker out and we got to chill with anticipation for our adventures the next day.
In the morning we hit the ground running. RJ planned for us to try out this water park on Lake Travis. It was really great because since we went during the work week, it wasn’t overly crowded with people. We got our wristbands and headed to the pool!

We had so much fun splashing in the water. My little Buzzy Bee even braved the tube slides with my husband. Since we had these awesome floaties, it allowed them to play much safer on the slides and the open water. Still had to supervise, BUT it was nice to be able to let go more and allow them to freely swim around.
After all that pool fun, we had worked up quite an appetite. We found a spot called Local Slice that we hit up for a bite. When we first walked in, there was a stunning mural to the left with all the characters imaginable…everyone from Goku to Pikachu. We had fun naming off all the characters we could find while we waited to eat.

Now of course in my mind I envisioned a nice pizza lunch with chill kiddos sitting peacefully eating. Yeah right 🤣 It was more like feed me now screaming crying. That’s what happens when my kiddos are hangry and sleepy…maybe a new word 🤔 Slangry 💀
Anyway, the food was quite decent! I’ve always enjoyed putting bacon on my pizza. This spot took it up a notch with the offering of pork belly! We had to say yes. We got a a true Texas style pizza called the Longhorn and added that pork belly for a nice filling lunch.
For the rest of the day we were pretty wiped out in recovery mode so we saved our energy for all to come next day.
In the morning we decided to hit up our Airbnb pool. It was really nice! They had 3 sizable cabanas so we took our pick. We also got the entire place to ourselves so that was a really fun time.

After naps we had intended to go to this kids museum called the Thinkery, but it closed before we could get there. Some quick maneuvering landed us with the Austin Aquarium as our backup option.
What’s cool about this aquarium is that it is very interactive. They encourage feeding the animals and gentle petting of some sea creatures. They even have ring tailed lemurs that will climb on you (supervised of course). We didn’t take advantage of those options, it was probably for the best. It sounds cool in theory, but I have a hard time believing it wouldn’t end in some dramatic overhaul of tears for fear of animals climbing on them. Still, we enjoyed seeing all the animals great and small.

The girls had such a great time here. They enjoyed seeing some of the animals outside of cages and just wandering around looking to get fed. It’s a pretty cool concept all while learning about nature.
The aquarium concluded our adventures for that day and the trip. The next day we piled back in the car to head back to Funky Town. Lots of smiles and memories that I’m sure the kiddos won’t ever forget. Maybe they’ll even forget how scorching hot it was!
I hope you enjoyed reading and as always, I hope you’re inspired to live life to the fullest! ❤️ Kim
